J. Allan Brown

 

Mr. Brown was born in Selma, Alabama, September 16, 1973, but he was raised and attended school in Mobile, Alabama. He graduated St. Paul's Episcopal School in 1992 earning an athletic football scholarship at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, playing under Coach Terry Bowden. Coach Bowden left Samford for Auburn in 1993 and shortly thereafter Allan followed his old coach, walking on for the Tigers.  He played football at Auburn University in 1995 and 1996, earned a full scholarship in 1996 and was awarded the Southeastern Conference Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. He graduated from Auburn University in 1996 with a B.A. in Political Science.

Thereafter, he worked in Washington, D.C., as a Legislative Correspondent for United States Senator Richard Shelby. As a Legislative Correspondent, Mr. Brown researched and wrote legislative correspondence, conducted legislative research, and assisted Legislative Assistants as needed.

In 1998, Mr. Brown went to Birmingham, Alabama to continue his education, enrolling in the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University, after being awarded Cumberland's Presidential Scholarship. During law school he was a member of the Cumberland Trial Advocacy Board, and worked part-time for the Birmingham law firm of Hare, Wynn, Newell and Newton. He received his Juris Doctorate in 2001.

Mr. Brown is admitted to practice in all Alabama state courts and has been admitted to practice in the United States District Court's Southern District of Alabama. Mr. Brown is a member of the Mobile County Bar Association, Mobile County Volunteer Lawyer’s Program, the Alabama Association for Justice, the Southern Alabama Trial Lawyers Association, the Southern Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice. Mr. Brown also serves on the board of directors for the Moorer YMCA in Mobile.

Mr. Brown's areas of practice include eighteen-wheeler trucking accidents, automobile accidents, fires and explosions, product defects/failures, industrial accidents, medical malpractice, insurance fraud/bad faith, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord Injury and injuries invoking admiralty and maritime law. In addition, Mr. Brown handles cases involving toxic exposure or injury, asbestos/mesothelioma, silica/sandblasting and hazardous chemicals.

Business Alabama listed Mr. Brown as a "Rising Star" in the Alabama edition of Super Lawyers magazine in 2010 and 2012. In becoming a "Rising Star", lawyers are asked to nominate the best attorneys who are 40 or under, or who have been practicing for 10 years or less. They are instructed to nominate lawyers they have personally observed in action — whether as opposing counsel or co-counsel, or through other firsthand courtroom observation. No more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in the state are named to the list.

Mr. Brown was recognized for his standards of excellence by The National Trial Lawyers:Top 40 Under 40 for 2012. The National Trial Lawyers Association: Top 40 under 40 is a  professional organization comprised of America’s top young trial attorneys. Membership is by invitation only and is extended exclusively to those individuals who exemplify superior qualifications, trial results, and leadership as a young lawyer under the age of 40. Selection is based on a thorough multi-phase process which includes peer nominations combined with third-party research.

He has been a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum since 2010. Established in 1993, the Million Dollar Advocates Forum (which includes the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum) is one of the most prestigious groups of trial lawyers in the United States. Membership is limited to Trial Lawyers who have demonstrated exceptional skills, experience and excellence in Advocacy by achieving a trial verdict, award or settlement in the amount of One Million Dollars or more. Fewer than 1% of U.S. lawyers are members.
