Jason McCormick

J. Allan Brown

Jason S. McCormick and Joseph A. (Allan) Brown started out on opposite sides of the courtroom, with McCormick defending insurance companies and Brown representing plaintiffs. But it wasn’t long before McCormick crossed over to Brown’s side and the young lawyers teamed up to form McCormick & Brown, LLC in 2002. “I just couldn’t represent those insurance companies any more”, said McCormick, who grew up in Long Beach, Mississippi, and came to work for a Mobile civil defense firm right out of law school. Brown, grew up watching his lawyer father, Buddy Brown, representing plaintiffs in their hometown of Mobile. “So it’s in his genetic code to be a plaintiff’s lawyer”, says McCormick, who describes his partner as “just plain tenacious”, with a really broad perspective on their work.

McCormick & Brown do nothing but plaintiff’s work, which McCormick says fits perfectly with his original motivation to become a lawyer. “I guess I just always knew I wanted to represent people against power.” A wall of clients’ thank you letters and Christmas cards in the office constantly reminds them how much their legal work helps their clients’ lives, McCormick says. “You can go home at night, close your eyes, and sleep because you know you’re doing the right thing”, he adds.

Both Brown and McCormick are active in the Mobile Bar Association and the Alabama Association for Justice (ALAJ), formerly the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association. They are both on ALAJ’s emerging leaders committee and the executive committee for the Mobile Bar’s Young Lawyer Division. McCormick also serves on the Mobile Bar courthouse committee for state court and the federal trial practice. Brown also serves on the board of directors for the Moorer YMCA in Mobile.
