Cardura
Cardura is a blood pressure medicine prescribed to treat high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. Cardura is also used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, a condition in which the prostate gland grows larger, pressing on the urethra and threatening to block the flow of urine from the bladder. Last year a study by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that Cardura users had experienced congestive heart failure more frequently than those who used a cheaper diuretic. The FDA advisory panel, reviewing the study, also heard a petition from a Cardura user who also has filed suit against Pfizer, the manufacturer of the drug. The lawsuit claims that Pfizer deliberately attempted to negate the NIH study, because sales of the drug were approximately $800 million in 2000.
